Recommended Season
Baby corn can be cultivated almost year-round in suitable Indian climates, except during the peak cold months of December and January, when low temperatures may affect plant growth.
-
Kharif Season (Monsoon): Late May to June
-
Pre-Rabi / Rabi Season: September to November
-
Spring / Zaid Season: Late February to March
Baby corn grows best in warm weather with adequate sunlight, fertile soil and regular moisture. Sowing time may vary depending on your local climate and weather conditions.
Sowing Instructions
Sow the seeds directly into the final growing location or container, as baby corn generally performs well when direct-sown.
-
Prepare loose, fertile and well-draining soil enriched with well-decomposed compost.
-
Sow the seeds approximately 2–3 cm deep.
-
Maintain adequate spacing between plants and rows to support healthy growth and air circulation.
-
Water gently after sowing and keep the soil consistently moist during germination.
-
Avoid waterlogging, especially during the monsoon season.
For better pollination, it is advisable to grow baby corn in a small group rather than planting only one or two isolated plants.
Sunlight Requirements
Place the plants in a location receiving approximately 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Adequate sunlight supports healthy plant growth and ear development.
Watering & Care
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during active growth and ear development. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely during important growth stages.
Mix well-decomposed compost into the soil before sowing. Provide balanced nutrition as needed and remove weeds regularly to reduce competition for nutrients and water.
Ensure proper drainage during the rainy season. Healthy soil, adequate sunlight and consistent moisture help support good plant growth.
Harvesting
Baby corn is harvested when the ears are young, tender and immature, usually soon after the silks begin to emerge. The exact harvesting time depends on the variety and growing conditions.
Inspect the plants regularly and harvest the ears at the appropriate stage for the best tenderness. Delayed harvesting may allow the kernels to develop, resulting in a less tender product.

Note: Germination, plant height, ear size, yield and harvesting time may vary depending on seed quality, variety, climate, temperature, soil conditions, spacing and growing care. Product images are for illustrative purposes only.
